As Easter approaches, a time traditionally associated with good intentions, a concrete initiative is taking shape. Agencies in Terni and many other cities have launched a solidarity campaign. The Bonifazi Franchising property group is strengthening its partnership with the charity Semi di Pace, supporting education and hope for children in Cameroon through a project intended to put down lasting roots.
Following the Christmas initiative, which raised funds by selling panettone in squares across Italy, another bridge is being built towards those most in need: a wide-reaching charitable effort.
The achievement of the Christmas fundraising target—thousands of euros raised through panettone sales—was announced at January’s annual meeting at Hotel Giò in Perugia. The successful event also highlighted Bonifazi’s continuing growth against the backdrop of a difficult period for the Italian economy.
The project supported by Bonifazi and Semi di Pace involves building the Saint Jean primary school in Batouri for children aged six to eleven: #1mattoneXbatouri.
The school will comprise three buildings with six classrooms, four offices, two laboratories and two storerooms, accommodating 200 children.
Easter cakes will be sold in Terni in Via Goldoni, Via Roma, the station area and Città Giardino; in Narni by the cathedral arch; in Perugia in Elce and San Sisto; in San Gemini’s square; and in Viterbo, Rome, Pescara, Isernia and Sulmona.
Agreements have also been reached with companies that will buy the cakes as Easter gifts for their employees.
“The approaching Easter is a great symbol of peace and brotherhood, which are so needed today,” says president Bruno Bonifazi. “Together with Semi di Pace we will continue supporting solidarity initiatives involving the whole company and agencies across Italy, to give hundreds of children a better future. Now it is time for Easter cakes to raise funds and bring a light of hope to the youngest and most disadvantaged children in the Diocese of Batouri.”
“The only way to help the most vulnerable,” the charity’s representatives explain, “is to talk less and roll up our sleeves, showing they have not been forgotten and that people will do everything possible to ease their suffering and ensure their sacrifices are not in vain.”
Founded in Tarquinia in May 1980, Semi di Pace runs health, education and social projects not only in Cameroon, but also in Italy, Romania, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and India. An Easter cake is a tiny grain, but each one helps fill the sea of solidarity.
